Background
The Sir William Birch Education Trust was established in 1993 by William Francis Birch who was at that time a member of Parliament, and Minister of the Crown. The purpose of the Trust was for the "promotion and encouragement of tertiary education for students" . The Trust Deed also established an annual bursary. The amount and conditions of the bursary to be determined by the Trustees on an annual basis. Since the inception of the Trust, the Trustees have awarded an annual bursary to students within the area served by Sir William during his term as a member of Parliament (1972- 1999)
